About Me — Amy Wilson
It seems obligatory for writers to pen one of these to let their readers have a little more light on the situation, yet I’m a classic Brit: self-critical, cynical and rather awkward in public. And this feels extremely public, so I’m immediately all legs and arms and don’t quite know what to do with my hands.
The basics
OK, let’s start with the simple stuff.
I’m a constantly moving, only-ever-happy-when-I’m-outside exercise junkie who loves hiking, running, cycling, swimming and any team sport that will have me.
I’m also a gay woman married to an American from the deep South. We’re both blessed with wonderfully accepting families and have no particularly harrowing homophobic stories to tell (unlike some of our friends).
I lean Centre-Left but, since 2016, actively seek conversations with conservatives… or anyone else that doesn’t think like me. I was blindsided by Brexit, shocked by the election of Trump and realised back then that my echo chamber was presenting me with a homogenous bubble, rather than a shared reality of mixed opinions.
